WEEK 15
NAVY vs. ARMY
Saturday December 8th, 3:00, CBS. At Philadelphia (N)
One of our nation's greatest traditions returns to the Gridiron on Saturday; The Army-Navy Football Game. Every December the stadium is filled with Midshipmen and Cadets in full uniform cheering the famous "GO ARMY BEAT NAVY", and "GO NAVY BEAT ARMY." These hosses grind it out for 4 quarters with each and every yard a hard-fought battle.
After a slow start to the 2012 season, Navy has found a spark on its offense with Freshman QB Keenan Reynolds. Since he was inserted into the Air Force game, Navy has gone 6-1 much in part to Reynolds' mastery of the triple option AND efficient passing. Already bowl bound, Navy has beaten a member of all 5 non-AQ conferences, and would love to earn their 8th win Saturday.
On the other side of the battle, Army has Senior QB Trent Steelman running the nation's #1 rushing attack (370 yards per game). They are better than their 2-9 record, knocking off Boston College and Air Force while playing tough against Northern Illinois, Kent State, Rutgers, and Ball State - all bowl teams. This Army program hasn't experienced a win in this rivalry since 2001...they will be fired up as always to reclaim the Commander In Chief Trophy.
With both teams excelling on offense, the difference in this year's matchup will be on the defensive side. Navy has a significantly better unit (allowing 14 points LESS per game), and should control the line of scrimmage. Navy has already clinched a bowl bid (Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl vs. Arizona State), but Coach Niumatalolo will have his squad focused and motivated to make it 11 in a row, and reclaim the CIC Trophy...
