FANTASY FOOTBALL REPORT: Week 8 Love/Hate
October 24th, 2013

Fantasy football is no different than the famous game of blackjack. Trying to pick the best players on any given week is incredibly similar to playing a single hand of blackjack. Let me clarify. There are certain players, like the Mannings, Petersons, and Megatrons of the world, which are comparable to being dealt a 20. A 20 is a very good hand in blackjack, and in the long run will win more often than not. However, on any given hand (Sunday) a 20 can lose, and therein lays the truth of fantasy football. You could have the greatest projected starting lineup in the world on Saturday, yet on Tuesday be wondering where it all went wrong. Nothing is guaranteed in fantasy football. The sooner you accept this, the better fantasy player you will be. So with that being said, let’s take a look at my Love/Hate list for Week 8:
Love: Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, and Aaron Rodgers. In their respective situations I love each of them this week. Peyton and Brady both coming off a loss, and Rodgers playing on Sunday night versus a rival team and maybe even more importantly it is Greg Jennings new team.
Hate: Matt Ryan, Alex Smith, and Andy Dalton. All three of these quarterbacks are going against solid defenses and are not necessarily major point scorers anyway. With Peterson on Douglas, Hayden on Bowe, and Cromartie on Green, I see these quarterbacks having a subpar week.
Love: Receivers, any and all receivers. Week 8 features multiple potent passing offenses versus mediocre defenses. For example, we have the Broncos playing at home against the Redskins, the Packers playing at the Vikings, and the Eagles are playing at home versus the Giants. The Redskins defense couldn’t stop Josh McCown last week. JOSH MCCOWN! If you’re wondering who to throw into your flex spot, choose a receiver over a running back.
Hate: Running Backs. Most top running backs are facing tough front sevens in Week 8, most notably Jamaal Charles going up against the Browns and Shady McCoy going up against a Giants team that just held Adrian Peterson to virtually nothing. However, running backs must be played, and I like Peterson, Bush, Marshawn, and Gore this week.
Love: Carolina Panthers defense. Playing the winless Bucs on a Thursday night. No brainer.
Arizona Cardinals defense. Expect Patrick Peterson to blanket Harry Douglas, leaving Matt Ryan with very limited options.
Hate: Washington Redskins defense. Playing on the road versus a trigger happy Broncos team, they could easily give up 50.
Miami Dolphins defense. Does anything piss Tom Brady off more than losing to the Jets? I don’t think so. Pair that with more practice with Gronkowski in the lineup and Amendola expected to play, and you have the set up for a classic Tom Brady “eff you” game against a team that just lost at home to the Thad Lewis led Bills.
Love: Speaking of Rob Gronkowski, I love him this week versus the Dolphins, along with Jimmy Graham playing against the Bills. The Dolphins and Bills both like to bring pressure with multiple-front blitz packages, so expect the quarterbacks to be looking for the quick routes to their Tight Ends.
Hate: Jared Cook of the Rams. Can anyone name the Rams starting quarterback this week? Neither can I. With Sam Bradford tearing his ACL last week, I’d shy away from any offensive players on the Rams.
Kyle Rudolph. Again, inconsistencies at the Vikings quarterback position with Christian Ponder reportedly starting on Sunday night versus the Packers puts Rudolph in my hate column.
Love: Matt Prater. Obvious reasons.
Hate: Billy Cundiff. The Cleveland Browns offense going against the Chiefs top ranked defense, I just don’t see Cundiff getting many opportunities.
Remember. These are simply suggestions as to players I believe will have above or below average weeks, so take that as you may. As is with any prototype, this format is subject to change week to week, so make sure to check back next Wednesday. Also, feel free to hit me up on Twitter: @PickSix_NFL
Best of luck this week...
