Coming off of a stellar sophomore season and SEC East championship, Missouri Tigers receiver Dorial Green-Beckham has been suspended indefinitely from all football related activities. Head Coach Gary Pinkel cited that Green-Beckham violated team policies which led to the suspension.
Interestingly enough, Green-Beckham has been slated by many analysts including myself, to be one of the best receivers in the SEC if not the country. Now the Missouri faithful must hold their collective breath to see the outcome of this latest story. Worst case scenario, Green-Beckham violations are so heinous that he will be kicked off of the team entirely. Via a report by Edward Aschoff, an ESPN analyst, Coach Pinkel made his official statement: “It’s unfortunate, but it’s the right thing to do for our football program, for the athletic department, and also for Dorial. We have high standards related to the expectations that come along with being a Missouri Tiger, and Dorial has not met those recently. Representing Mizzou and our fans is a privilege, and we’ll work with him during this process. It’s been disappointing to have this, and other issues which have taken place lately. It’s frustrating, because we work very hard to instill responsibility and discipline in our young men so that our program represents Mizzou the right way. These actions aren’t representative of those expectations, and we are addressing these issues head on." The Tigers, who are already thin at the wide receiver position with L’Damian Washington and Marcus Lucas both graduated, needed Green-Beckham to continue to produce similar numbers from his sophomore season. Now the Tigers look to Bud Sasser, Jimmie Hunt, Darius White and Levi Copelin to step up. Sasser is the only player in that list to have started last year. Incoming freshman DeSean Blair and Lawrence Lee might also get some reps depending on the severity of the receiver situation when the players return to Columbia for summer practice.
