"Presented to the college player of the year by the Maxwell Football Club"
This award is presented in the honor of legendary football player Robert "Tiny" Maxwell of Swarthmore College.  Known for gridiron dominance and playing through extreme injuries, Maxwell later became a top referee and then a journalist covering the sport.  15 years after his tragic early death, close friend Bert Bell founded the Robert W. Maxwell Memorial Football Club in Philadelphia to give awards in his name and to emphasize football safety.
