Champions Tournament (2012) > Champions Gauntlet (2013 FSU) > 2013 FSU vs. 1998 UT > 2013 FSU vs. 1999 FSU
After defeating 1998 Tennessee convincingly (11 games to 4), the 2013 Seminoles next opponent, ironically, is the 1999 Florida State squad. Out of the 40+ historic matchups we have simulated and analyzed, this is the first time a program will face off against itself.
1999 SEMINOLES The pinnacle of Bobby Bowden's decade of dominance that included 14 straight Top 5 finishes came in 1999 when his 'Noles became the first team ever to go wire-to-wire ranked #1. They survived an early season test from #10 Georgia Tech (41-35) and outclassed both of their Sunshine State rivals. Perhaps the toughest test came in late October in the 'Bowden Bowl'; Bobby's squad rallied from a 14-3 halftime deficit to beat his son's Clemson Tigers in Death Valley. In the Sugar Bowl (National Championship), it was all 'Noles, as the offense out-lasted freshman phenom Michael Vick and his Hokies (46-29). If not for an off-the-field issue, the 1999 Heisman Trophy surely would have been awarded to the elusive WR Peter Warrick - owner of the greatest highlight reel of all-time. In our Champions Tournament last offseason, 1999 FSU was seeded as the #2 overall team (of 36), and defeated 2004 Utah, 2002 Miami FL, but lost in the Elite Eight to eventual runner-up 2011 Alabama [Bracket Below] MATCHUP RESULTS Each of our historic matchups are simulated 15 times, with the winner of the series declared the overall winner. After taking down Phil Fulmer's 1998 Tennessee Vols, the 2013 Seminoles defeat their predecessors by the same margin: 11 Games to 4. Jimbo's squad won by an average score of 34-25. Imagine the FSU spring game, now add in championship atmosphere, countless All-Americans, 2 Heisman quarterbacks, and obvious national TV hype. This is one I'd love to see, and I'm sure Seminole Nation agrees. There'd be Tomahawk chopping non-stop all game regardless. 2013 FLORIDA STATE advances to challenge Big Game Bob Stoops and his 2000 Oklahoma Sooners (Monday 2/10/14) Results of our Champions Tournament (Last Offseason):
