Champions Tournament (2012) > Champions Gauntlet (2013 FSU) > 2013 FSU vs. 1998 UT > 2013 FSU vs. 1999 FSU > 2013 FSU vs. 2000 OU
In our 3rd of 8 computer simulated games between the current champion and other dominant champions of the BCS era, we have the 2000 Oklahoma Sooners attempting to give Jameis Winston his first loss.
2000 SOONERS The once-dominant football powerhouse was without a winning season since 1993 before Bob Stoops came to Norman in 1999. Stoops' 7-5 campaign in 1999 sparked some optimism and brought some life to the Sooner program. Pre-ranked 19th in 2000, this title team came out of nowhere. After an easy opening month, the Sooners faced 3 top-10 teams in a row - and destroyed all three. First it was a 63-14 beatdown of rival #10 Texas, then a 41-31 win over #2 Kansas State. To cap off the streak, OU took down rival #1 Nebraska, scoring the game's final 31 points. From there, All-American QB Josh Heupel continued his aerial assault, while shifty RB Quentin Griffin produced 17 rushing touchdowns. The stingy defense was anchored by All-Americans LB Rocky Calmus and S J.T. Thatcher. Young Roy Williams was also a standout at Corner. The Sooners trailed in the 4th quarter at Texas A&M but rallied for the road win. After a rematch victory over Kansas State in the Big 12 title game, Oklahoma was matched up with defending champion Florida State. Heisman winner Chris Weinke was completely stifled by the Sooner defense, as Oklahoma grinded out a 13-2 win. The "Big Game" Bob Stoops legend was created, and his successful career at OU was jump started in just his second season. THE MATCHUP RESULTS Each of our historic matchups are simulated 15 times, with the winner of the series declared the overall winner. This was the closest battle so far, with Florida State edging 2000 Oklahoma by a single game. Clearly, this series could have gone either way, but given the format of 15 games, Florida State 'wins' the matchup. The final two games were very decisive, and gave FSU the average points lead, 27-26... Next up, the resilient 2002 Buckeyes Results of our Champions Tournament (Last Offseason):
