2013 FSU vs. 2002 Ohio State

Does Tressel have another miracle in the playbook?

BRETT CIANCIA
February 19th, 2014
In our 4th of 8 computer simulated games between the current champion and other dominant champions of the BCS era, we have the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes attempting to give Jameis Winston his first loss.

2002 BUCKEYES
The term "Team of Destiny" is thrown around lightly these days, as is the title "Game of the Century."  But the 2002 Ohio State Buckeyes lived up to that description and defeated the heavily favored, defending champion Miami Hurricanes in the best game of the BCS era.
There was never a dull moment on the Buckeyes road to perfection; an astounding 7 of 14 wins were by a touchdown or less:
3 Games (Cinci, Wisconsin, Michigan) ended with an Ohio State defender intercepting a pass in the endzone

Overtime defensive stands vs. Illinois and of course Miami
Game-winning Pick Six vs. Penn State
"Holy Buckeye" vs. Purdue
In the Fiesta Bowl, Miami came in riding a 34-game win streak, and had all the hype and the superstars to go with it.  Every national expert had Miami winning, and they were double-digit Vegas favorites. But the better 'team' prevailed, with stingy defense and a gutsy performance from QB Craig Krenzel, the Buckeyes finished their resilient season in a fitting way, a double overtime thriller and a defensive goal line stand - 4 plays from the 1-yard line - to cap it off.

THE MATCHUP RESULTS
Each of our historic matchups are simulated 15 times, with the winner of the series declared the overall winner.  After barely getting past 2000 Oklahoma, the 2013 Seminoles got back to their dominant ways here.  There would be no more Buckeye magic in this one, despite such an incredible season of last-second wins.  This one was a blowout, with 2013 FSU winning 13 of 15 games, by an average score of 29-16.  Next up: the 2005 Texas Longhorns
