In our 7th of 8 computer simulated games between the current champion and other dominant champions of the BCS era, we have the 2011 Alabama Crimson Tide taking on 2013 Florida State, who are coming off consecutive losses to 2005 Texas and 2008 Florida.
2011 CRIMSON TIDE Coach Nick Saban has crafted some elite defenses down in Tuscaloosa, but the 2011 edition may just be his best ever. The 2011 Crimson Tide defense led the nation in every statistical category, the first to do so since Bosworth's 1986 Sooners. In the first of two #1 vs. #2 matchups, Bama lost at home to LSU 9-6. Besides that slugfest, there wasn't a single close game, nothing within 16 points. Despite not winning the Western Division or the SEC, thanks to an Iowa State upset over #2 Oklahoma State, Alabama found itself back in the National Championship. Here, they earned revenge against LSU; the 21-0 score does it no justice as this was total domination. It took until mid-way through the 4th quarter for LSU to pass the 50-yard line (but then a sack negated that 'achievement'). In out Champions Tournament last offseason, 2011 Alabama advanced all the way to the Championship and lost a close one to 2001 Miami. This earned them the title of 2nd best BCS era team. MATCHUP RESULTS This one, like the 2011 title game, was all Bama. The Tide Rolled to win the series 12 games to 3. They won by an average score of 36-28 but something tells me that 28 point average is a bit high against this vaunted Bama defense. Hey, give FSU some credit, at least they crossed the 50-yard line (and scored multiple times), something grass-eating Les Miles couldn't figure out. In our series finale, 2013 FSU will challenge the reigning BCS-era Champion - 2001 MIAMI
